Wireless Headphone 5-in-1 Hi-Fi S-XBS MH2001 Review

Cheap Wireless RF Headphones

I was looking for a headset that is cordless but not bluetooth connectivity because I will be using it for my guitar effects pedal or when Im doing home recording using my Native Instrument Guitar Rig Session IO. That's when I found this Hi-Fi S-XBS MH2001 5-IN-1 Wireless Headphones on eBay and it's quite cheap. So, I said to myself, I will have a go and buy one. Anyways, it's cheap what can go wrong.

Parcel Arrived: Well packed and it's not bad. I mean cheap but decent. I then tried it, followed the instructions on the manual which is quite easy and straightforward. They call it RECEIVER and EMITTER. Before, we use to call it Receiver and Transmitter isn't it?

The box contains the Receiver and the Emitter, one mono 3.5mm short earphone lead and manual. The Emitter already got the necessary lead connected to it. Also there's option to use 4.5v adaptor or batteries which doesn't come with the unit when you purchase. Good thing I always got batteries. The Receiver needed two AAA as well as the Emitter also needed two AAA batteries.

It is quite easy to use. Just follow the polarity of the batteries when you install it to the Receiver and Emitter. Only problem was when I was opening the battery compartment of the headphones, it's a bit hard because firstly, locating it. Although it was illustrated on the manual but sometimes we are not sure or what we don't care to read what's on the manual.

The battery compartment is located on the Left side opposite to where the volume and on/off control, reset and scan buttons. Slide to open the battery compartment. Once batteries are installed, turn volume control up to turn the unit on. Press reset and then press scan to use the FM function of the the headset. I enjoyed the FM functionality of this headset.

By the way, the headset is lightweight and comfortable. Fully adjustable, it even fit my 7-year-old boy. The materials are cheap but acceptable, I can't complain because the price is quite cheap. Sound is decent, got low bass sound as well as high trebles. However, when I tested the wireless functionality, it was not as loud as the FM volume. And, to pair your headphones to the Emitter, you have to press RESET first and then SCAN. Otherwise, it will still function as FM headphones.

I haven't tried the WIRELESS NET AUDIO CHAT and WIRELESS MONITORING because these weren't the reason why I bought this unit. I've tried the Wired headphones and I liked it. It's much louder and clearer compared to being wireless. I didn't like the lead that came with it because apart from it's short, the quality is cheap. So, I decided to order on eBay a longer and much better quality lead.

So far, I am quite please with this unit and will be using this most of the time; around the house whilst washing the dishes, ironing clothes, before going to sleep and of course jamming with my guitar and doing some home recordings. This time there will be no annoying cord/lead hanging in the way when I play my guitar.

  1. Where did you order them? Recently ordered a pair of headphones from ebay, and they arrived in an open box, and I'm pretty sure had been used by someone!

    1. Sorry for the very late reply. You need to use the black connector and plug it to the tv earphone out. Then make sure that the selector from the transmitter is on wireless headphone. There are four choices there. (first is OFF, then next to it is WIRELESS HEADPHONE, then MONITOR and last is AUTO CHAT). Now on your headset, turn it on using the volume control. And then press reset so that the radio will disappear. Then press Scan once. It will automatically detect your wireless headphone setting. Hope this helps even it's a bit too late.

    1. Sorry for the very late reply. I don't use the blog as often and don't check comments either before. But, Im back and more into it now. Right about your question, the battery compartment is on the opposite side of the headphones where there's no controls i.e. volume control, scan and reset. It's a bit hard at first to slide and open it but just press hard with a good grip and you'll be able to open it. I struggled as well when I first opened it. Hope this helps. ALthough it's very late.

  5. Listening to music and receiving calls without having to touch your phone is no longer a utopia thanks to Bluetooth wireless Earbuds. But you need to find one that is powerful and attractive.

    1. You can use the RCA output from your tv. At the back or side of your tv, there's this audio output which is colour red and white it's always paired as red and white and then your wireless headset transmitter should have this wire. Just connect that one and your good to go. avoid the yellow colour because normally that is the video out or input.

    1. totally agree with you. But with me I only use it for my guitar practise to avoid wires and normally it's just about an hour or so plus I bought rechargeable batteries from Ikea. There are a lot of better wireless headphones around but doesn't suit my need because mostly are bluetooth and I need something that I can connect my guitar with. Another thing is the sound, those HiFi headphones which are intended for music, is not good for my guitar. It doesn't sound right. I tried Bose and Beats for my guitar and it sounded terrible. But I found out that studio recording headphones are best for instruments like guitar or piano. Anyways, cheers for your comment.

    2. It seems to have a timer, maybe to conserve batteries. If so, I don't know if it can be bypassed, probably not. If your sound is working okay then suddenly turns off, turn the headphones off and back on. WHen I do that, it immediately resumes the wireless audio, no further action required. BTW, I suspect that most of the bad reviews found here and there are because the user did not first press RESET then SCAN. I have sometimes had trouble even then, but IIRC, it turned out the transmitter batteries were low (tested marginal), so, naturally, the local FM stations overpowered it.

Beyond that, yeah, the build quality is cheap. The transmitter case broke when I dropped it. But I glued it back together with a nylon tie for good measure, and it's worked fine ever since. BTW, keep the transmitter away from the TV and other sources of Radio Frequency Interference. In my hallway, the transmitter reaches the whole apartment, with only a bit of hum (which might be my TV audio hookup.)

Also, the wireless transmission might be mono, I'm not sure. Haven't tested it for that.

The unit doesn't come with an AC adapter. Checking online, I see that it wants 4.5 volts, tip positive. But I've stuck with batteries, which last long enough, because the AC adapter gives me a LOT of noise. Different adapters might vary.

  11. . The genres that really benefit are electronic, hard rock, and mid tempo hip-hop, although other genres are also very good for the most part. Whether you're into classical music or Heavy Metal the sound quality is excellent at low volumes and really pumping at higher volumes. You will enjoy any kind of music with these, jbl headphones.
