I've had several questions on my channel on how to remove the noise or hum of Zoom G1xOn and my answer to them normally are: Check if it's the power adapter causing it, if it's the guitar lead, if it's the amp, or try the battery option. But, I've really never considered to check the pedal itself. Because Im quite happy with my Zoom G1xOn and have used it during gigs, rehearsals and even recordings. And, Im happy with it, my bandmates are happy and even the sound engineers are happy with my pedal.
However, recently, I made a video as an experiment or comparison for my Zoom G1xOn by using two different guitars and used different leads plus trying out plugging the Zoom G1xOn directly to an audio interface versus guitar amp. I was surprised that it was not the guitar or pickups or amps or leads that's causing the noise, it's really the pedal.

So, after I watched this video, it made me think that there should be a solution somewhere. And so, by pure luck, YouTube recommended a video for me from AshBass5 about noise reduction for Zoom G3, G3X, G5 and I've watched the video and learned from something from him. I thought, aha, I can use this for Zoom G1xOn.
So here it is. This is how to remove or minimize the noise of your Zoom G1xOn. Just go to EDIT and add effects, scroll and look for ZNR, then either turn the DETCT to Gtr-In and turn the THRSH up to 17 or 18. Or, you can leave the DETCT as Efx-In but put the effects first on the chain before the amp.
Hope you learned something useful here and please don't forget to subscribe on my blog as well as on my YouTube channel. All the very best to you guys. See you later!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI'm affraid G1On doesn't have the ZNR effect since it doesn't have a pedal ... also how did you solve or add ZNR when the effects chain is full ?
Thanks for your Video.
Cheers
Hi again,
DeleteSolved by using https://tonelib.net
But whem the 5 pedal chain is full I don't see a way to add the ZNR.
Cheers
Yes, good point. I haven't used ToneLib but a lot of Zoom users do and it's really great program. Makes it easy to edit. Zoom G1xOn got maximum 5 effects in a chain so if ever you really wanted a ZNR it's either you will delete one effects and swap it with the ZNR or buy an external pedal Noise Reduction so you can enjoy more of the effects in your Zoom G1xON

ReplyDeleteI use the ZNR set at 16 but every amp sim I try still has a buzzing noise that seems to linger on after a note is played on the guitar. If there is no amp sim in the chain there is no noise, but I need the amp sims to get the right sound for songs.
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes with high gain amp sim, there's always noise. It's hard to tame it down even with ZNR or Noise Gate. Try and re-arrange the effects chain. Sometimes, if you put the ZNR first on the chain or last, it will make a difference. Even your placement of amp sim in the chain can make a difference. Another thing that can create noise is your power supply. Try using batteries. Also perhaps your guitar needs shielding like a foil in the compartment of your pots (potentiometer), there could be other factors involve like wiring of your guitar or your guitar cable or the amp that you use. Try this one first, how to rearrange the effect chain. https://youtu.be/1gDfDokMGpk

ReplyDeleteI have been having this problem for some time. So initially I felt it was because I was using the mono unstable cable for connecting the processor to my amp. However the sound is still there after I got new stereo cable, and moreover I have tried adding the ZNR and it still the sound doesn't go.
ReplyDeletesorry for the very late reply. It's because when there are comments here it does alert me I have to scroll the comments for me to find out and read them. Anyways, about the Zoom G1xOn noise, it is really prominent especially when using high gain effects. What I do because you really can't get the noise is I normally put my clean tone patch next to it. So let's say Bank A1 is my clean tone where it's only reverb that Im using and let's say FD Combo. Then my A2 will be my lead tone where there's lots of noise, I would then just use A1 as my clean tone and then when it's time to start playing I will simultaneously step on the pedal to change to A2. That way it hides the noise for a bit and then after I finished like my guitar solo, I step back to my clean tone which is A1. Same when I record, Im always on my clean tone before steppling to my lead tone. For example Im doing a Joe Satriani instrumental, I will be on my clean tone when I press record on my video and then press backing track and when Im will start playing I will step on my lead tone. I hope this helps.
